A window or dialog box must be active for you to dictate into it. The active window can change when you use another application or save your profile.
Make sure the window in which you want to dictate is active. If your audio signal level is low, more memory is used to recognize your speech and Dragon will run more slowly. Run Dragon's sound system check: say "Check Audio" (or "Switch to DragonBar", then "Settings", then "Microphone", then "Check Microphone"). If you are using a USB microphone, connect it directly to the computer's USB port and not a USB extension or hub. If you are using a laptop with a docking station, try connecting your microphone to the laptop instead of the docking station, or vice versa. If you are using an external microphone, check that your microphone is properly plugged into your computer. Check that Dragon's microphone is on (as opposed to off or asleep). For help pairing a wireless device, try our guide to using a Bluetooth device with Skype. If you get no response when you speak into your microphone: Note: Some wireless sound equipment has a USB transmitter which should be plugged in using the same method. USB headset, microphone, or speakers: Insert the USB plug into any USB port on your computer. Headset: Insert both plugs into the matching ports on your computer. Speakers: Insert the green plug (or the plug with the headphones symbol) into the port on your computer with the matching color or symbol. Microphone: Insert the pink plug (or the plug with the microphone symbol) into the port on your computer with the matching color or symbol. How do I connect my microphone, speakers, or headset? Most computers have at least two matching USB ports that are same shape as the plug. USB headsets, speakers and microphones only have one plug each.
They might be color coded with one pink for the microphone and one green for the headset, or have symbols showing a microphone and headphone.
You'll have two plugs which have corresponding ports on your computer.
Identifying the type of plug on your device Speakers, microphones and headsets have one of two types of plug: mini jack plugs or a USB plug. However, to make and receive calls with Skype, you need either a headset with a microphone, or a microphone and speakers. If you don't have a headset, microphone or speakers, you can still use Skype to send and receive instant messages.
